Over eighty thermopolia have been identified in Pompeii, suggesting that wine service was deeply integrated into everyday Roman urban life. Amphorae found across the site reveal the range of wine origins traded in the Roman world, from local Italian production to imports from Greece, Spain, and North Africa. The preservation of Pompeii under volcanic ash has made it one of the most important archaeological records of ancient alcohol culture ever discovered.
