About isitadryday.in

isitadryday.in is a free public-information service that answers one simple question: is today a dry day where you live?

Dry days in India — days when the sale of liquor is restricted by state excise rules — vary widely from state to state and even city to city. National observances like Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti apply across the country, while festival dates, election polling and counting days, and state-specific observances differ by region. Keeping track of them all is genuinely hard, so we built a single place to check.

What we offer

  • A daily yes/no answer for your city or state
  • A full calendar of declared and expected dry days for the year
  • City- and state-specific pages covering major locations across India

Where our data comes from

Our calendar is compiled from publicly available information, including state excise department notifications, official government gazettes, and announcements by the Election Commission of India regarding polling and counting days. We review and update the calendar regularly, especially around festivals and elections, when new dry days are often notified on short notice.

A note on accuracy

Dry day declarations can change at short notice and can differ at the district or municipal level. While we work hard to keep our information current, this site is an informational aid, not an official source. For legally authoritative information, please refer to your state excise department. See our Disclaimer for details.
